Firewall insulation

Driving along I notice alot heat coming from somewhere and assumed it was the heater core or lines, but I have water valves stopping the coolant from going to the heater core. One day I went to reach around the seat and noticed a large volume of heated air and I assume it's coming from behind the padding. I have no insulation behind the padding, is this the problem?? Anyone have any suggestions for sealing this area off? Thanks

I am wondering too what is the best way to go with insulation on the firewall, and the rest of the interior for that matter. I am trying to make a grand touring car for lengthy trips, so unfortunately a quiet, cool cabin is paramount.

I was going to use the material from Dynamat that jeff6559 has suggested. Just wondering if any other things could be used to good effect? Thanks, Mark

I used DYNAMAT thru out 9138 and then recarpeted with Mercedes wool carpet and the heat and sound was reduced signifcantly. They say there are others that will reduce sound but not heat ...DYNAMAT worked great.

I used the foil lined insulation in my car reduced both heat and noise. My car has the polished stainless firewall cover available from the vendors. I put a layer of insulation between the stainless cover and the firewall in the engine compartment.
On the interior I did the same thing, glued insulation to the firewall and the put the bulkhead cover over it. Big Difference!
