I was out driving yesterday and one of my front brakes locked up. Not totally but the pads were making contact as I could smell them. I had noticed a few times that the pedal height would increase after the car was warm and I did not understand why. Yesterday I heard some squealing just before the brake decided to lock up. Today I plan to pull off the caliper and try to figure out what is going on. Any suggestions on things I should do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. No more driving until the brakes are fixed. Argggg. I would love to upgrade my brakes but that is too expensive for now.

If I was to upgrade what would people suggest? I don't need these Brembo systems
as I will not be racing the car. Of course
I would not mind having the Brembo or Wilwoods but isn't that overkill. Should I just replace the front calipers and have the rotors checked? I would like better braking than what I have now. I have looked at Hall's web site and several others to get an idea of what is available. TIA.
Rather than re-engineering your brake system. I would simply order a caliper overhaul kit (PI Motorsports stocks them at reasonable prices, as do all the Pantera vendors). A 'kit' does both front or rear calipers and takes a Saturday to redo all the brakes. Varnish and trash builds up inside the calipers and can cause freezing of the pistons or lack of piston return. Just don't waste time trying to find a kit at Pep Boys for a few bucks cheaper. Brake failure on the road is extremely serious! It's a messy but not difficult job IMHO.
