fuel tank filler door

the spring on my filler door is missing (i have a 74 with the filler door in the side gill ),i think it was some sort of spring steel. anyone have any FIX-IT ideas ? i checked with wilkinson , and this piece is no longer available .

today is Saturday, I'm painting now. Tomorrow is daylight savings time and I loose an hour, oh boy, am I gonna have a headache.
I think I know where it is in the shop now. I take a look on the way out, or was it that I think I know where the shop is? Oboy...

OK, I found it. I would say that is your perverbial $.59 part.
Try Roland Jackle or Hall first.
Although it is a seperate serviceable part I would rather keep my together as a single intregal part at this point.
It is mounting to the back of the gill.

thanx for the picture doug , maybe i could fabricate my own using a piece of spring steel, at least i know now what it looks like !

I lost mine a year or two ago, and asked the DeTomaso factory for a replacement. They would only sell it as a complete assembly with the gill included. I imagine Roland's stock will be the same.

mine has been missing for the 20+ years I have owned the car and never missed it. I have never had a problem w/ my gas door (or anything else) flopping down when it wasn't supposed to. Gravity seems to hold it in place.

Looking at the piece it looks like it is only a matter of time before it snaps.
It seems simple enough but I don't know if you can form spring steel into this shape without breaking it.
It has to be done untempered and then tempered after it is formed.
