thank you for the information.What a great resource this site has helped me with many questions about my car, which my father owned before me and unfortunately did not have this resource to turn to therefore struggled with a lot of misinformation from hometown mechanics that did little or no good. The car now runs better than ever has,well it did before the gas tank started leaking anyway, mainly due to this WebSite linking me up with a supplier or answering my questions or reading the answers for similar problems listed on the board. Thanks!
Now that I have a little more time I'll try to explain a bit clearer. My gas tank was leaking,I am sure you are aware as I am now,the procedure to remove and repair or replace the gas tank properly. Well the gas tanks is out,.
Looking down into the engine compartment at what I suppose you would call the frame, that is what I was talking about welding. I'm not sure but it sounds like you're talking about the exterior body parts, which makes sense since I said "body". Is your answer the same for the frame? Thanks again .

As for welding the frame, yes, except that in cases like behind the gas tank, access for a torch is extremely restricted even with the tank out, unless you know a 'metal-magician'. Most builders (including the factory LeMans racers) leave this area alone and simply run roll cage bars through the rear window (glass replaced with Lexan) to doublers on the the tops of the inner rear fender panels, which is directly above the rear suspension mounts This triangulates the area and is much stiffer than even seam-welding the lowers. The other choice, usually only when massive rust forces a repair, involves cutting the quarter panel skin off the car for weld access- a massive job! If you have a copy of the Orange Illustrated Parts manual, or the later black parts manual, there are exploded views of the various parts that make up the monococque subframes in the Pantera's rear. This may give you an idea of what you're considering.
