So far I'm very impressed over all with the car. On the trip home I put my foot in it many times. At one point was pushing 135+. At that speed I was very impressed with the stability of the car. Literally was able to drive with one hand on the wheel while shifting as I passed the 135 mark and was pulling hard in 5th. There is no doubt in my mind this car can hit the 170 mark with the 8000 rpm redline

I haven't really done any real hard cornering with it yet. Saving those moves for a large parking lot so I can find the limits & learn the corrections without slamming into something in the process. The car will see the track in April when I'm at the Pantera rally, by then I'll have had enough practice with it to feel comfortable pushing it to our limits, especially mine... Too nice a car to let my foot over load my ass.

As for the get up and go power, well, it's different than with the GT5. Where the GT5 has major torq & it hits you in the butt when it's hammerd, the NSX is more refined and much smoother, it's silky smooth. I also find with the NSX, because this car has the CTSC, in order to keep the car at the point of instant throttle response, I have to keep the RPM's over 4000 so the boost is always present. I did get on it some in a few corners and found when the SC kicks in if lower than 4000 rpm's, thats when things can get a little squirrely with the rear end. It just wants to spin the tires at that point. But from what I can tell, I believe the NSX will handle much better than the GT5 in cornering once I get used to it.

As for being fast, it's very fast and more important, it's very quick getting to fast. It's nothing to hit the bottom of a normal freeway onramp and be doing 130+. Just a walk in the park for this car.

After I got it home on the first night, it was take my sons for a ride time. They said they could hear me a block away and knew it was me getting home. They said it sounded more like a Formula 1 type car. I have 3 sons, (14, 18 & 21). All of which have been in the GT5 many times on the street and track. All 3 of them said the NSX was quicker than the GT5 and were grinning from ear to ear. The car is actually very quite until I put my foot into it and the SC kicks in, then it has a low howl scream that just gets louder and can be heard from a block away.

The NSX is far more comfortable to drive than the GT5. It's not as much work, nor does it beat you up as much.

But.... after driving the GT5 for the last 7 years, I did miss that V8 sound and feeling. But like I said, the NSX is just different and I like the feeling and the sound of it too. It's growing on me more and more again, it reminds me of driving the Porsches, Ferrari's and Lamborghini's I've owned in the past.

Over all, I'm glad I made the move for now. I intend to own another Pantera in addition to the NSX. But this time as a collector that I intend to restore from a bare frame up. Then it will only be a Sunday & Pantera event driving car.

Like TomCat said, it's like comparing a F-4 Phantom (Pantera) vs F-16 Falcon (NSX) And TomCat being an X Rio in a F-15, owning both a Pantera and NSX, he knows what he's talking about when comparing the two Wink

2 totally different cars with their own special qualities. I intend to have both.

I stack the cars in the garage and they are the same (size, weight, hp, profile, wheelbase, no power steering, etc...).
My stock Pantera hits HARD from 0-4,500 rpm and then falls off soon after...the (mostly stock)NSX has a flat (much lower) torque curve so it makes hp like a motorcycle/F1...screaming.
Colt 45 vs 9mm
Ginger vs Mary-Ann
When I was ~30 I did San Diego to Pensacola (solo) in the Pantera in 36 hours 15 min...so other than creature comforts (noise, steering effort at idle speeds, air conditioning, etc...)
I'm a HAPPY MAN!!!
Coz, great review but you forgot to compare the famed ZF to the NSX gearbox. Also, where's the brake comparison. Well, maybe I don't really want to know. Smiler

BTW, when you're ready to jump on the Pantera saddle again, the right cars are out there. I spent the afternoon looking over a black and very original Euro GT5S with about 1000 miles thats for sale.

Take care.
Panther,

No comparison with the gear box in the NSX Vs. the ZF. The NSX gearbox shifts easily in all gears, up or down. I have the short shifter kit in mine so the movement from top to bottom is maybe 2" to get from gear to gear. If I run to the redline, 8000 rpm in one gear and shift quickly (Not speed shifting), but still just short of speed shifting, it gets into gear like butter without the need of slowing down to allow synro's to work. Same with down shifting. Then there's always the fact that if I toast the gearbox in the NSX, I can get a new custom rebuilt one for under 6 grand and have it in days, not months. I can buy a full set of short gears, 1 through 5 complete for 750.00. As hard as I have been driving it, I have NEVER had a gear grind at all, up or down....No contest.....

My brakes on the NSX are stock at this point. But so far I have found them to be very positive without any fading at all. The NSX also has ABS. From 130+, I can slow the car down so quick it pulls me forward in the seat. But you also have to understand that with the NSX, your not slowing down as much mass as you are with the Pantera. So this is very much a factor why the NSX stops so much better with stock brakes than a Pantera does. At some point, I may upgrade to AP Racing brakes. But really at this point, I don't see any need to other than for looks. A set of 4, 1st quality, Rotors, (Vented, drilled & vained) Hats & Pads are 300.00.

Another thing we all have understand is the difference between the cars. The Pantera is 1970's and the NSX is 1990's F-1 technology. 20 years is a lot of years in between.

The more I drive the NSX and the more I get into what the car is really all about, the engineering and performance, the more I realize this was a very smart move for me, my style of driving and what I want out of a car of this type. It really is like driving a jet.

I'm not at all sorry I bought this car....It just gets better all the time.

You bet, when I'm ready, I will go to Europe again to find another GT5 like I did the last one and bring it home Big Grin
Take care as well brother....
