Hi Charlie.
I was in contact with Thomas Tornblom, the new swedish event manager of this meeting.
He told me, he will organize only for swedish people. They are very limited to 30 rooms and they need nearly all the rooms for their own people.
Participants from other countries have to book their hotel by themselves anywhere in the pampa.
The only program over the weekend is to watch the race and there are no activities with your own car.
I think this is NOT an international De Tomaso meeting. It is only a swedish club meeting, with a few "second class" guests from the rest of the world.

Sounds like the Swedes make only a short trip to watch the race.

As I understand it, reservations are being handled on a "first come, first served" basis, regardless of nationality. I got my reservation in and I know of other non-Swedes attending. Before declaring it a "Swede only" event, I'd see if there is still room. You can't say that they won't let you attend if you haven't asked to do so!
There has been a changing of the guard in the Swedish club, that is clear, and Mats will no longer be the driving force behind the meetings. There was some concern that the meetings would die completely because nobody would be willing to put forth the effort to organize the thing. Will this meeting be smaller than past meetings? Smaller than some, but larger than others (remember that the 2001 meeting organized by the Factory had a limit of 20 cars).
Personally, I'm glad to see SOMEONE has stepped forward to organize something. They've been up front about the fact that it isn't a luxury hotel, but in past years when I've gone to Le Mans I have slept in a tent so I'm just happy there's running water ;-)
By the way - why did the Swedes end up organizing most of the details? Because nobody stepped up to help organize a meeting, like Sebastian did last time (and a great job he did).

I would like to take the opportunity to describe the background a bit.
Me and my wife were persuaded to assume the role of organisers of the 2006 trip to the Le Mans classic at the swedeish detomaso club meeting we had in September. We were assured at the time that everything was set up, and all arrangements were done. It would be an international event, and we would invite international attendees, just as we have done in the past.
When we started confirming the hotels, we found out that the hotel in france, for which we had a preliminary booking, had not received a confirmation and had dropped our booking. They also had no rooms available.
I spent about two weeks sending emails and faxes to all hotels around the Le mans area, within a 100 km radius, and they were all booked. Very late we did get a positive response from a hotel that has 30 rooms. They had a preliminary booking that they were prepared to cancel if we took all the rooms.
We went down to Le Mans to check things out, and although it is not a luxury hotel, it is clean, and it is what we managed to find.
Given that we could only stay for a few days, we did not find much activities beyond going to the race track. We have planned an alternative activity for one day though. The planning is not finalized either, so there might be other things coming up.
As we only had 30 rooms, and this is our first event as organisers, we initially decided to limit the event to just the swedish members. Later we did change our minds and decided to accept notifications of interest from international attendees. Depending on interest we cannot guarantee that everyone will be able to come, but we do still have some rooms available, and we would be very glad if you would be interested in coming.
I apologize for the less than stellar planning of this event, but personally I think it is the people that makes an event like this a success, and we would like to invite all, within the limits of the number of rooms. Had we been involved from the beginning, it would have been different, but the time constraints and loss of the hotel has forced us to make what we can out it.
And I object to the description of the international guests as "second class". We do actually have another hotel, with 19 rooms, but that is about 5 km away from the first hotel, and we decided that splitting the group that far apart would not work, especially as none of the restaurants can take the whole group, and we really would like to have all attendees gathered during the dinners. Knowing how hard it is to find a hotel, I offered the booking of the other hotel to Franz, instead of just letting that booking pass. My idea was to have someone else arrange that, but apparently he was offended by my offer, which was done in good faith. I am now dropping that booking.
