I am checking out a 74 GTS tomorrow but want to corss reference the chassis number. Is there a register somewhere that I can have a look at so I can make sure it's not out of synch!
At least in the US, there were all kinds of strange games played with the '73 and '74 model years for emissions reasons. I don't know what was happening in the UK around that time, but I wouldn't be surprised if the car took 6 months to make its way from Modena to a buyer in the UK.

Yeah, in disucssion at Vegas I got talking to a guy about smog difiiculties and he tells me to check the VIN code against Ford build dates as apparently a lot of teh so called 74 (registered) cars were built in '73. Now beleive it or not that can be a distinct advantage because there a large number of Cal guys that went to DMV and got the title changed back to '73! Why? No emissions requirements and hence no smog test!
The law states year of manufacture not year of first registration!
