Dec 22,oo. Jack; I have a 73 Pantera which I have owned for 6 mos. A fellow Pantera owner suggested I replace the stock voltage regulator with a transistor model (JC Whitney) which would stop the ammeter gauge needle from flickering. Didn't seem to make much difference, however, I notice that all my lights flicker(dash/headlights etc. when they are on. Never noticed this before,do you thing its the voltage regulator, alternator?

Lots of "funny" electrical stuff happens when the central ground point under the dash gets loose (behind the gauge panel up high). But the only sure cure is to arrange a shunt on the ammeter. In stock form, 100% of the current goes directly thru the meter, so you remove the meter, add a strip of brass sheet maybe 3/16" wide, directly across the two terminals, insulate w/ shrink-tube and hook up the wires as before. Now, maybe 75% of the current goes AROUND the meter (thru the brass) rather than thru the meter, so needle deflections are much lower. This is safer as well because these gauges are known to loosen internally, resistence goes way up and fires have resulted! The size of the brass is not critical and can be "tuned" with a pair of scissors to get the needle deflection you want.
