I can tell you they rock! I have them on mine. My understanding is they were designed and produced by the founder of PI, Fred Matsumoto. PI Motorsports still sells them, though they are now called "Big Throat Headers". Not near as cool sounding, eh? I really don't want anything on my car called "big throat", haha.
I run Mind Train mufflers on my car because, after some research, I concluded they are the lowest restriction mufflers conventionally fitted to Panteras in a 90 degree header application. In fact, I have been advised that after some controlled testing was done, it was found that some other vendor's exhaust systems actually created more back pressure than the stock ANSAs so, for me, the choice was clear.

For a visual comparison, have a look at the Mind Train brochure posted on the following PIBB thread: http://pantera.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7650045562...560097263#7560097263

My Mind Train mufflers are a 12" glass-pack or bottle style with a 2 ¼” custom-made spiral louver core and a 3 ½” outer shell diameter. As I recall, Fred said they are made of something like aluminized steel (if that makes any sense). The tips are 18 guage 3” diameter pipe. Fred also supplied me with the 2 ¼” resonators for insertion into the tips. All of this is used in conjunction with a full 3" exhaust with crossover system based on Fred's design.

To add to Matt Bradley's history, Fred had so much success with his exhaust designs that, after he left PI, he started a high performance exhaust business which he still operates to this day. The only problem is that he now specializes in rice burner exhausts and no longer stocks mufflers for the Pantera. When I bought mine about a year ago, they were the very last ones he had.

I believe Fred set a world speed record in a Mind Train exhaust equipped Pantera after having driven the car all the way to the salt flats from California!
Actually, Pat Mical manufactures and sells a full 3" system designed for Panteras with strokers. It includes his monster custom-designed headers and a crossover. You can see it on the PONE web site. It does not include mufflers, but I'm sure that if you were to call him he would set you up with something appropriate. Either that or cut the baffles out of your ANSAs.
Pete - I have Pat Mical's headers and a set of Big Bore Mufflers. I am going to have an exhaust shop graft the mufflers to Pat Mical's down pipe. What I could use your help with is some up-close detailed photos of how your exhaust tips angle up out of you mufflers. Please send them to: clewis@dancemusic.net

Thanks! - Chris Lewis, Chassis #5318
Whats all this talk of mufflers? Forget 'em! Just run 'em straight with glass paks and live the good life! Thats how I have my Mind Trains. No, I'm not sneaking up on anyone with them, but they aren't really as loud as you'd think, until you get on it, and then Beethoven couldn't have written a better symphony!
