Hello ,
I have my pantera completely disassembled and ready to send out to get stripped. That should be gone for about 4 weeks. Im currently working on sub assemblys, I have a couple of questions that Im sure you guys can help me with. I bought this car disassembled and so far, When I go to look for parts , everything is there.Right now I want to just get the body repaired and painted and reassembled back to the original factory condition and modify the areas that I cannot change at a later date. I have extensive restoration experience, But this is my first pantera and this is my personal car.
Need one outer rocker panel, one patch panel, in the right inner wheels house, I need some structural square box type vertical repair panel, Whom sells the best product out there ? I have a brake and sheetmetal bent ect, i like to buy panels if i can.
Should I box in the factory original control arms and or modify the uppers to correct alignments concerns, as some posts I have read about front alignment issues?
Were do i get the brake lines, does someone make them pre bent or do i have to cut off the fitting and make them myself? Looking for the hard lines, not the flex hoses,
Car is to have 23,000 miles, Should I get the rack rebuild , can i do that myself? I cleaned it up and looks very nice condition, not binding or sticking, tie rod ends are tight.
Thanks in advance, Bob

bobboss351,

I am also completing a complete teardown and restoration on my Pantera. Concerning the brake lines, I purchased a couple coils of brake line from NAPA and used a small bending tool and flaring kit to form them to the proper shape. The line was about ~$25, the bending tool ~$15 and the flaring kit ~$30.

I also rebuilt the steering rack, replacing the nylon bushing with a bronze one from Precision Pro-formance. The nylon bushing was found to be in very poor shape. Panteraplace.com has detailed instructions on how to do this job. Most of the work is cleaning up the old rack and polishing the shaft, removing coked oil deposits. This is a job you can definetely do yourself, since it appears that you have good mechanical skills.

Good luck with your project. Hopefully we will both be on the road soon!

Speedway Motors (google it) lists 20' rolls of 3/16" 304 annealed stainless 6000 psi brake line for $25/roll. They've got all the other little knick knacks you'll need too.

They have a GREAT selection of fittings, flex brake lines, etc. Cheap. I replaced my red plastic clutch slave line with a braided brake hose from Speedway, I think it was $17 for the hose and $2 for the fitting. A fair bit less than the usual vendor price.
It might only be $25 a roll for stainless brake line, but by the time you add in all the fittings, the flaring tool (special one for SS lines) and the fabrication, my recommendation is get a vendor stainless brake line kit. The pieces are all cut to length and fittings etc. attached, ready to install.

Johnny Woods is definitely the guy to go to for a-arm modification and he makes a selection of body pieces. Getting parts from him you'll be asssured of the quality and fit, that's not always the case with some of the vendors.
