Hi,
I'm brand new to the forum and also a new Pantera owner located in San Diego. I've been involved in collector cars for quite some time but have never owned(or driven) a Pantera. I am an enthusiast and also make my living with old cars(own a restoration shop).
I just bought this car(a white '72) last week from a woman who with her ex-husband had owned it since '76. It had sat since about '86 until about '98 when her brother a Toyota tech got it running, installed a big radiator, removed the hi-rise manifold and installed two new tires. Then it sat until my purchase. We dumped the old gas, put in a new battery and test fired it up. We'll be going clear though it to put it back on the road safely. It is a very original car; seems most of the mods were to the induction system.
I've been enjoying old posts about bumper configurations. This one has black metal bumpers. I'm going to look closer at them once back at the shop Mon. or Tues.
The last 4 of the chassis # is 42xx something as I recall. If anyone is curious I'll be double checking the vin next week also.

Thanks for this forum,
Brian Peters

Welcome aboard Brian! And welcome to the DeTomaso family.

Chassis 4269 was the first 1973 L model Pantera (with the big black front bumper). It was assembled in August of 1972. If your car has a chassis number of 42XX with the smaller metal bumpers with integral turn signal bezels, it is most likely what is refered to as a pre-L built in the month of July 1972, and would be considered a very late 1972 model.

If your Pantera has turn signal pods integral with the body, then the small black "bumperettes" were installed by a previous owner in place of the big black L bumper, and you have an early 1973 L model, manufactured in August or September 1972. Some folks refer to these as 1972 1/2.

There are many active Pantera owners in the San Diego area, including the former directors of Pantera International, Dave and Linda Adler.

Thanks for introducing yourself.
