This is my first post on here so firstly hi all.

As a little background to myself I work as a professional digital designer and am currently building a Ford GT40 replica in my spare time and have always had a soft spot for Pantera's.

The reason I am here is to get some input from the Pantera community on some designs I've been working on for what a modern day Pantera could look like. I was hoping De Tomaso would bring out a new car but when they went bust last year I think all hope of new Pantera died with it. So I thought I'd have a go at putting pen to paper and try to design my vision of a new Pantera and who knows maybe once the GT40 is finished I might even attempt building one

So without further ado please take a look at my latest sketch below. I can’t stress enough that this is a very early work in progress sketch so please be gentle with your comments as nothing is final. It’s been a real challenge to try and design a car that looks modern yet still has the distinctive characteristics of the original car. Also the car has been designed with a donor car in mind should I try and progress the project further which has limited the design somewhat.

I hope you like it (fingers crossed) and I'd be greatful for any feedback you have

I like the sweeping lines. I like the interpretation of the push-button door in the intake scoop. Also interesting is the layering/overlap? of the hood deck lid line. Retention of the gill is nice as well.

As I have no artistic skill, I am impressed with your innovation. Looks balanced, modern and retains a presentation that is obviously a Pantera.

The rear shot of the Pantera and one's ability to see that mechanicals, i.e half-shaft and trans, is a favorite perspective of mine. What are your thoughts there?
Thanks Lui, I like the wide look of the GT5S too so plan on giving the car that kind of look. You can see the outlines on the sketch of the flared arches but I've just not fleshed them out yet.

Do you think the designs are a bit too conservative? I was tempted to go for something a little more extreme looking but I've been careful to try and keep the original look and lines as much as I can much like Ford did with the GT as I want enthusiasts to instantly recognise the car as a Pantera.

I know it's hard to imagine the whole design from just these couple of sketches but I want the car to have that classic Italian flare and elegance together with the mix of amercian muscle that the original had. Hopefully I can come up with something that you guys like
Thanks for the reply George some great feedback there. As for the rear window it's there purely for visibiliy and I plan that the car has a complete glass engine deck lid that flows from the top of the roof down to the back of the car. This will be used to show off the engine bay as the donor car has a pretty impressive looking motor.

As for the front lights, the front end is proving the most difficult aspect of the car. I'd love to have a flat nose with retractable lights but it feels a little 'old school' but I agree lexan style lights take a lot of the character away from the car. One area I am looking into is things like smart glass or OLED panels that can look like paintwork until an electric current is passed through where they become transparent. I like the idea of the car having that traditional look but with a modern twist. I've got no idea if it could work but it's something to think about.

Hi all

Thought I'd show you some much earlier designs I did to see if there is anything in these you like of do you prefer the first sketches I posted?

The front end isn't great on these though. I tried to give the car a mean aggressive modern look but I think it's lost the delicateness of the original nose. Again keep chipping in with your thoughts

and finally one more take on the first sketch. This one has more line along the side and a different style nose opening

Much better than the first. Something about the first looks like it has a Honda Civic "ricer" body kit with too many unnecessary bulges and lines sweeping up at the rear along the beltline. The latest sketch doesn't have that loo - not sure what the difference is, but it's preferable when I look at the two side by side. The nose is better on the latest sketch too.
Thanks for the comments glad you like the last sketch. This was my preferred choice for quite a while but I was worried the wide mouth front would be too far away from the original pantera.

I think this car has more muscle and weighty look about it which is maybe more in keeping with the original car.

So would you all say you prefer this design?

I still think the wheel base is too short. It needs just a bit more between the door gap and the front wheel. Kinda reminds me of the Lancia Statos with the short wheel base.

I dont know if I'm totally sold on the wide mouth either. The sketch of the red one has better proportions IMHO.

Keep up the great work. I'm looking forward to more.
OK, here we go. I decided to start again and have done a clean sheet design which has taken me a long time. I really hope you guys like the latest version of the car, I've tried to take the original Pantera design and bring it forward to produce a modern design that is still sympathetic to the original car.

Things to note:
- No headlights built into the bonnet area (a la Ferrari 458, gallardo etc). I wanted to keep the pure flat nose like the original car
- High nose as per original car
- Air vent adds modern design touch and aids with cooling I felt the side looked to plain without it
- Wrap around screen gives modern style that was also popular on other 70's cars such as the stratos
- High, jacked up rear end like the original car.

I'd would very much like to hear from you guys on what you think to this design. I've tried to keep the design pure and sleek and resisted the temptation to put on scoops, huge flared arches etc. The original Pantera is still in my eyes the purest design so I wanted to replicate that with this design.

I really hope you like it, without further ado

Thanks for the great comments guys. Doors are too small and work in progress. I've already reworked a few more elements with the help of a fellow designer in Italy and I think the design is really evolving well and we are getting close to the final look.

I appreciate your input on the designs, I think it's important that the design appeals to owners of the original cars and keeps a strong lineage to it's history. Also ignore the badge, that is placeholder.

Well I thought I was having pc troubles I could not see the drawings... Now that I know it was a ploy... George maybe you should erase the thread so others will not waste the time reading it since we can't be helpful... just MHO and as for the drawings maybe they should have been left up so they could be admired.. I don't think anyone here would squash a dream.

Apologies Joe & everyone, I know you must be frustrated with my decision to remove the images but I just want to protect my designs at the moment. I really would love to share the designs with the community but I have invested a lot of time and now money into the project so I want to wait until the time is right to share more details and images.

Maybe I am being paranoid but this project is a big deal to me and I want to give it the best chance possible. I am currently in the process of working with several other designers to finish the design before they are being sent out to be validated and then 3D models and CAD models produced.

I have some quite ambitious (some would say crazy plans) and I will release more info when things progress.

I'd like to thank the community for reviewing the sketches when they were online, your input is invaluable to me and I would love to share more info with you guys but unfortunately in the world we live in you can't trust anyone.

Hope you understand and I appreciate your patience, I'll make sure you guys will be the first to get any info. If this thread needs closing then George please close it.

Hi all

Thanks for your patience and apologies for pulling the design images but I am now ready to share the current design of my take on a modern Pantera.

The reason I chose to remove the last design is that I wanted to try and keep the wraps on the project in the hope of bringing my design to life. The car has been designed with a particularly car in mind for the donor but when we got into 3D design production this week we quickly realised the design wouldn't work with the car.

The problem is that most, if not all modern day mid engined cars have the cabin positioned very far forward in the car. If you look at the Audi R8 and Gallardo for example they are very much forward weighted with short stubby noses. To create the Pantera look the car needs to have a long nose and so we looked at taking a donor car and removing the roof and positioning it further back in the car. However the packaging is too tight so I've decided to put the project on hold.

I have been tempted to look at developing a custom chassis for the car but I really wanted to cut around as much of the development as possible and saw the project as a coachbuilding exercise.

So there you go guys, the cat's out of the bag. I hope you like the design and if anyone has any thoughts on a potential donor car for a modern Pantera then please make a suggestion.

Here she is:

Thanks
