NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT – Electronic Parking Brake Actuator

SACC Restorations is extremely excited to announce a brand new product that solves several issues that some Pantera owners have complained about for years.

The Electronic Parking Brake Actuator, developed by E-Stopp, is a perfect fit for the Pantera. Are you one of the Pantera owners that agree that the parking brake lever was placed in a strange place? With the placement of the lever on the Passenger side of the console, it can be difficult to get enough leverage to set the parking brake effectively. If you reach over and really set the brake with both hands, you will likely have to use both hands to release it. How about the folks with oversize seats where the parking brake lever is in the way of the larger passenger seat.

Our friends over at E-Stopp have solved these issues for us! With the E-Stopp actuator installed, the parking brake lever in the cabin can be removed and replaced with a single button mounted in a convenient location to the driver, or mounted in a hidden location for an extra measure of theft protection.

When the unit is activated via the push of a button, the E-Stopp actuator slowly applies the parking brake calipers. Once the unit detects 600 pounds of force applied to the cables, it turns itself off. Once off, it does not use any power to maintain the 600 pounds of force applied to the cables. If your choice is to hide the button, the potential thief will not know why the car won’t move!

Once you return to your Pantera, you simply press the button and the parking brakes are slowly released.

The E-Stopp kit retails for $449.00. The unit is compact and fits well in the confined space of the Pantera undercarriage. For a limited time, SACC is offering this kit at an introductory price of only $439.95. Installation does require some mechanical prowess, but for the do-it-yourselfers, this is an exceptional value!

For the folks that would rather have a bolt on product, SACC Restorations is offering a version of the kit with Pantera specific installation hardware and instructions.

This kit comes with mounting brackets for the actuator, mounting brackets for the cables business end, longer actuator cable, adjuster bracket assembly and instructions.

This kit eliminates the stock hand brake lever, the lever attachment arm under the car, the actuating lever (this is the part that holds the wheel that pulls the cable), and the bracket that hold the arm and cable ends (this is the part that some cut off the bottom of the car to facilitate oil pan removal, then they use a bolt on arm assembly). The Pantera specific kit will retail for $659.95 but will be available for a short time at an introductory price of only $639.95!

Let me know if there are any questions...

Interesting product. Great that things like that are being developed. And that some make a Pantera specific kit. It would make me use my parking brake a lot more for sure. But...I doubt our local biyearly tech inspection would be passed with this set up, they can be very conservative. If I were to install this, does installation involve any cutting/welding etc that can't easily be put back to normal to pass inspection if required? Or is it all bolt-on and potentially bolt-off?

Hi Mikael,

The E-Stopp is NSRA safety certified though it must be hooked to both brakes.

Q: Is the E-Stopp DOT certified?
A: Yes and No, the DOT only certifies brake hoses and calipers.E-Stopp has spoken to them and have their blessing.

In fact, it's target market was originally for handicapped folks that needed a better way to apply the parking brake. Once applied, it stays applied even after power is removed.

The installation is completely bolt on and can be reversed in about 20 minutes! The only modification to the chassis is a few bolt holes need to be drilled.

Since this product seems to convert stock emergency brakes to parking brakes, in the event of a total hydraulic failure of the main brake system, is it possible to modulate the actuating button to stop a moving car from any appreciable speed without locking the rear brakes (which several hundred lbs of applied force will certainly do), possibly losing directional control? The 'slow application' description seems promising in comparison to others sold over the years- such as the rudimentary Jo-Mar hydraulic parking valve which is either completely off or full-on. The Jo-Mar (actually designed as a fork-lift parking brake) has caused considerable body damage to a couple of Panteras when attempting to use it as a 'brake' in rolling emergencies.
This unit can be installed as a parking brake only or as an emergency/parking brake. The controller has an ignition bypass wire that will disable the unit if the car is running. This causes the unit to be ONLY a parking brake.

To use it as an emergency brake, when you press the button, it takes about 3-4 seconds to slowly apply the brakes.

The installer should make sure and install it so that it doesn't lock the brakes. Once installed, it should be tested in a safe location to insure it works how it is expected to work.

This kit would be a perfect fit for someone who is missing the emergency brake components...

I know I rarely used my parking brake but now I use it every time I park because it is so easy and simple to set.

And if someone were to try and steal the car it would be difficult...

If someone needs a complete system, from Calipers to actuator, a package deal can be made!

Have you tested the holding on a grade? e.g., how steep of a grade will it hold on?

Do you have mechanical calipers only (not a complete brake system) that works with these?

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the interest in this new exciting product.

The manufacturer took an SUV and backed it up a large hill in the desert to show the holding power of the E-Stopp system. I don't know what angle it was but it was a steep hill. The E-Stopp held the SUV no problem.

I do have mechanical calipers that are made by IPSCO that work great with this product. In fact, that is the complete system I run on my car.

I would never use my parking brake before but now I use it every time I park. The stock hand brake is hard to really set the stock calipers but the E-Stopp sets the brakes with 600 pounds of force.

The other benefit is the removal of the hand brake lever in the cabin.

Lastly, packaged deals and group buys always get increased discounts.

new ? what brand is the elecric water pump in the photo please!

It is a Stewart Electric Water Pump...
I have an E-Stopp with new brake cable and mounting hardware/bracket all from SACC Restorations. I still have it all in its boxes and wrappers. It has never been installed. It is a great product and looks easy to install. I am not working on the orange car these days as I am restoring #5715. That project needs a bit of a financial boost right now. Let me know if someone needs an E-Stopp. Please understand, I am not looking for a profit or anything like that, just looking to recoup expenses and redirect the money into the project.

Thanks,
Marc
