i have used lizard skin heat shield on floors inner roof firewalls . here in arizona outside surface temp on roof of 180*+ w/ 50-70* inside temp differential, with more drop using aluminum coated bubble pack insulation[w/its added sound insulating +'s] added dynamat for its sound deadening . definately makes big difference! wade in the heat! ps have not done any testing for cold differential but surely must.
their web site has the instructions as a download for the heat and sound skin. i have used it[heat] per instructions on the body over painted steel, on clean /etched aluminum and ss {exhaust shield [not on the pipes]}i hav e also used on underside of floor pans ,then shot a coat of paint to seal . also have put undercoating [body shutz ] over it. i usually put @ 1/16 '' thick total in three coats allowing to dry between coats [solar oven, here]otherwise takes 3-6 days to dry if applied to heavily.once dry /hard.. paint sticks good. i have coated both sides of engine firewall in my pantera inside floor/front footwell also inside of roof and new ss panels for engine side of firewall also using dynamat sound on inside of body, the floor and firewall inside also w a learjet insulating blanket material i purchased from one of their auctions here in town which i used in my model a hotrodon the floor and firewall .the aluminum coated bubble pack material is also a great$cheep$ heat barrier i places that dont have foot traffic[pop pop]just make sure you seal the edges down w tape or glue to prevent hot air from getting out from under it.
