what are opinions of side marker/delete?

I LOVE the clean lines of euro version cars, typically with one round light up front...or a custom look with front and rear side marker's deleted completely. Of course this would be done prior to new red paint! Smiler

You asked for opinions, so here's one more. I completely agree with your assessment of the Euro-cars side lights. I think the cars look too plain with no lights at all, and I also do think that they serve their purpose increasing safety.

If I were to restore a US-version car, I would strongly consider converting to the euro-style, simply for asthetics.
Perhaps, I am in the minority, but, I prefer the added color provided by sidemarker lights. That admitted, my preference is to eliminate the housing and french in only the lens. That is the ultimate look IMHO.

However, if you want to go outside the box, A restoration I recently completed replaced the sidemarkers with LEDs and hid them behind a translucent cover that was sprayed body color. The LEDs are invisible during the day for those who desire the "clean look" and permit light to shine through for the safety aspect when driving in the evening. The light comes through as if the lens were clear. Quite remarkable.

Unfortunately, I cannot find a picture that I have of the car with the lights on in the eve. Here is one taken during the day.

I hadn't seen this done before. Our painter/bodyguy actually did the treatment, I simply installed the LEDs and fabricated their protective housings.

I think side marker lights should be airplane style strobe lights to keep from getting t-boned in the dark by some idiot on his cell phone. I also think you should have a back up warning horn off a D9 catapiller to keep people from hitting you while you are backing out of a parking space. I think it would also be nice to wire a stun gun into your door handle as an anti-theft device. I bet insurance companies would give you a rate brake because of the extra safety equipment. Wink
