What's the definitive answer to what color owners manual goes with which cars?

I'm looking at 2 owner's manuals in my hands... One has a red cover and one blue. The red cover is for late-model cars, and the blue for early-model cars. They are nearly identical, with minor differences in the heater controls and fuse circuits, for example
