The L model began in mid (August) 1972, with a number of transition cars.
Transition cars have some or all of the L model features. The first to
appear was the L bumpers.

My 11/72 has L bumpers, but early 2 pod dash. (The late model dash arrived
near the 5,000 point, around Jan 1973)

According to the DeTomaso Registry, ( www.DeTomasoRegistry.org) there are
approximately 750 L model 1972s.
(1972 manufacturing date, not first registration date.)
