hey everybody! i just joined your site today and wanted to let everyone know that I have molds to build fiberglass Pantera body panels. I have experience with corvettes but always loved Panteras!

go to you tube, type in : 777HBL17   it's the grey one, this one is not stretched, but you can see how it looks. i have the molds from this build!

everybody want more info reply back with questions.

I have read a few post on here guys wanting a kit/replica on a tube chassis to use for racing. I eventually will do tube chassis but for now im going to build on a fiero "stretched" frame so the wheel base is the same as a Pantera. Also, I will modify the height to be same as a Pantera. Suspension will be C4 or C5 corvette. Interior custom but as close to a Pantera as possible but better. My replica is going to be a LS modified powertrain, 600hp+ !

what engine would you like in yours?

your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.

thank you,

Scott Stingray

The body looked well done to me!

I wonder if that’s a Long & Newman mold set?

UPDATE:  I spoke to the expert yesterday (Guitarman on this forum), and he says it’s not a L&M body.

That’s neither here nor there.  I still think it looks well done.  Are there a lot of Fiero chassis available?

Again, just curious...

Scotty,

I think your exposure on this forum is a good thing, but I think your potential customers are a very small niche market in general, and it is an even smaller subset amongst this forum’s members.

The Long & Newman replica cars were  a high-quality, perfect match for the stock sheet metal and accepted all of the OEM body components. There were a few other Pantera style kit cars back in the day but AFAIK none of those adhered to the original like the L & N design.

I would think a greater potential market exists within forums that cater to kit car builders, and with the current resurgence of auto world interest in the Pantera I imagine kit car builders would be very interested in your offering.

please do keep us abreast of your developments and progress. I’m curious to see what comes from your efforts as time progresses

thank you Larry for your advice. Let's see just how close I come to the exact measurements to a real Pantera. You might be surprised. I will build a few and post pics for all your members to see.I owned 2 Panteras before, a 1973 and 1983. My replica will be more like a GT5/GT4 look. I like wheel flares. As you know alot of Pantera owners do a little customization to their cars as well, so i will be doing  some myself.
Every Pantera "kit" car i;ve seen  had the wrong wheelbase and height which is a big deal. Plus thos "kits" had a transverse engine. My replica will have the same dimensions as an original Pantera and a longitudinal powertrain.
Let's see what I come up with

to be honest, at this time, i am not sure. After talking to a few builders, they say it should be around $40K If I install a longitude powertrain.. A lot cheaper if we go with a transerve set-up. Which would you prefer?
the transmission for my replica is minimum $10K mounted to a 600hp LS engine. If you want a 351 cleveland, that's not problem
I can give you a more approx price May 1st. I am meeting a true Pantera replica builder. I have built over  25 corvettes so I am very goos with fiberglass.
call me anytime, stay in touch, 850-714-2046

just thinking....... let me know what powertrain set up you want. would you want a complete build, just put the key in it and go! OR would you want it partially completed and at what stage? you might want to put some of your own sweat equity in the build.let me know your thoughts, opinions and ideas
thank you,

That would be a great application.

And WrinkleEffect....  I have never just seen the “chassis” in a picture before....  What happened to the body?

The chassis looks very solid, so it doesn’t look like a rust problem....

Stolen off the car in the “American Quarter” of Paris?

You didn’t like the color?

I realize this is off topic but the photos of the dissected Pantera are mesmerizing.  They reveal the inner structure of the monocoque.  It looks like the Pantera's roof and A pillars (missing in this case) are critical to the car's rigidity.  It is also interesting to see the welded in square tubes used as necessary structure since most of the body is absent at the back of the car.

I hope this project moves forward.  Best of luck to both Scotty and Wrinkleeffect.

Hi Steve -

I agree with you.  It’s really interesting to see the car’s center structure without a body on it.

I would expect all the panels (that are no longer there) also are a significant contributor to the overall structural strength.

Anyway - I’m interested in seeing how this project works out!

Rocky

if you want to make Pantera body panels using my molds, I guess you could buy my molds or send me your chassis. Your chassis needs alot of work before you place body panels on it.

I am about to make a Pantera using a fiero chassis stretching the frame to same dimensions as a real Pantera, 98.4 wheelbase and correct height.

I doing a LS V8 engine mounted with a 6 sp porche transaxle. 500 hp.
