After a few years of lust for the 'other' Ford engined super car, I've finally connected with one.

As a result, the Viper GTS I've had for a bit over 5 years is leaving. RESERVE IS OFF:

The GT should be here next week, will park it next to the Pantera so they can bond!

Hey folks, thank you for the encouragement! Let me tell you, NONE of this is fun or rewarding without fellow car idiots loving your car disease WITH you! So, thanks for that.

I had two colors I wanted, midnight blue or tungsten. Since I'm not terribly 'showy' (as if any of these things blend in!) I don't love stripes, so a no-striper was my pick. (Viper is steel gray, no stripes btw.)

The GT though is Tungsten with muted silver stripes. But it was a DRIVEN car unlike so many of these that are shelved objects of 550 mostly static horsepower. 'Mine' (haven't gotten it yet) has 32,000 loved miles, but looks like less than half that.

I didn't want a guilt complex for driving it, so that's out the window on this car. It is driven, was driven, will be driven. Now... if it only had a trunk!

Looking forward to the experience. Just shipped my sweet daughter off to school, so we're 'empty' now. My wife and I looking forward to a different stage here. The GT serves my ever fading manliness well, while she'll hopefully gain some passenger seat enjoyment on short trips.

She LOVES the look of it, and that I don't have to flatbed it to Atlanta for service. (Sold the 512TR recently, partly for that reason but a GREAT car nonetheless.)

So, that's more than you asked for, but that's my story, with justification!

I would be delighted, as the income would help me pay for fuel in the world's thirstiest vehicle. If my efforts don't bring 2 dollars for every 1 you invest with me, don't pay me. (This is the type statement that makes our accountant hate me.)

afterwords i didn't regret it , working on the car is 1/2 my fun ....still wondering what i could have done on a GT .... Wink

perhaps one day...

Mine has only been on my 'lust list' for about 5 years. Should've gotten one earlier, I'd be ahead! Anyway, the GT5-S is probably 3/4 the fun at half the price, so you're actually doing fantastic.

Enjoy that car! Yes, working on them IS a big attractant!
Very nice Viper! Whoever bought it got a great deal. But I'm sure you won't miss it once you park that GT in its place.

Reading your ad copy for the Viper, two things stand out:

1 - Now that you're empty nesters and seem concerned about your fading manliness, maybe its time to lose the preservation mindset and PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN. It will make you feel younger. Roll Eyes

2 - Please send me some pics of your hidden cup holder! I've been trying for years to find one to work in the cat. Think it can hide inside the glove box?

Enjoy the GT!
I really liked the look of your Viper. None of the flash and bling that so many of the Vipers tend to have. The muted silver color brings out the natural lines and beauty of the body design. Beautiful camel interior. Someone got a great deal on your car. I don't know what you do for a living, but the way you wrote the ad for your Viper, well, it was very appealing. You must be in sales of some sort I'll bet.

I've always loved the look of the Ford GT. Please send photos when you get the car and please let us know how fun it is to drive.

Congratulations!

David
Hello. My name is Erik - and I'm a caraholic. ("Welcome Erik" ... or something like that from the support group. Roll Eyes )

Seriously ... Nicely done! applause

I, too, suffer from the same affliction. I went ahead with the purchase of a Tungsten GT in June. Drove her all summer. It's a different experience, for sure: cranks easy, idles smooth, low volume (even at speed) ... totally dependable.

That said, it doesn't have the raw gnarl of the Pantera - that is, until the supercharger kicks in ... then it's like a fighter je.t.

Thank you for making me feel like I'm not the only lunatic out there. Can't wait to see some pix! A few of mine are below:

I never noticed this until you mentioned it and put them side by side.

I'm like Bill Cosby. "I need a car that goes 200mph because I live two miles from work?" Big Grin

I've been snubbed by GT owners with the Pantera but anyone with a brain, and not just buying a car with money they made from selling crystal meth will notice that they are both out of a very similar school of thought.

The GT is almost industrial in design by comparison to the Pantera which is...an Italian twist?

Hey, thanks David! I do plan on driving it, but the trunk is such a joke. The Pantera had the best packaging of ANY mid engine car.

Viper did NOT SELL on ebay. The idiot 'pretend bidder' claims their financing fell through. I'm thinking castration is too mild a punishment. Wow. So, worse things can happen than a shortage of parking space.

The cup holder is a collapsible German piece that is attached to the inside of the fold down consoled door. Will have to get pics next time I'm with the car.

Thanks, and I like the relative subtlety of the color and no stripe look. (As if a Viper can ever be subtle!)

That is so awesome. Love the floor in your garage.

No, you are NOT alone in your lunatic label!

Oddly, the GT is wider AND longer than the Viper, which is a pretty cramped but large car. My 512TR is wide as an aircraft carrier, but shrinks the faster you drive it.

Will be interesting to see how the GT 'fits and adjusts' in the driving experience.

Uh. I'm willing to lend you some parking space, so long as the car comes with keys...

HA! Long as the keys comes with a case of Milwaukee's finest home brew for every mile driven. Oh, funny thing - - the GT is coming out of Milwaukee, Harry Kaufmann bought it from some rather 'well healed' guy who owned it a few years there.
