Great process, isn't it. I've been doing my own for probably 5 years, and I keep coming up with new things to do with it. You'll also find out that you can color sand and buff it to any desired shine, from flat to full gloss. You can apply multiple coats, sanding between them, to save old parts. Here are before and after photos of an old emblem. You can also do small bolts, nuts, and washers, which I don't think the local powdercoat shop would agree to do. I love this stuff. Have fun! -Steve

Hey, nice avitar, Miles.

At school, we have two powdercoaters - the Eastwood one and the Harbor Freight one. Most people seem to prefer the Harbor Freight. At home, I have a Harbor Freight unit. I use a cardboard box for a spray booth, then just sweep up the overspray to reuse. I am limited by the size of my oven, which is a rotisserie that will do parts about 10" X 10" X 10". I've probably done 5,000 parts over the years. -Steve

Me too, got the HF system on one of their specials and the cardborad box was cheap too. I picked up a small Laboratory oven on Ebay and if I remove the shelves I can just fit an a-arm.
I use both the HF unit and the Eastwood one. I have the HF 18x18x18 oven. It is great. If you decide to use the chrome powders from Eastwood avoid the "single stage chrome". Go with the "Reflective Chrome". Even though Eastwood recommends it, don't use a clear coat over it. It looks just as good as polished alloy without the buffing nightmare.

That's great. What tools are you guys using and from where?

Miles, Im using the Eastwood gun, I found it on EBay and it came with about a dozen colors (almost 10 lbs) and the other stuff that the guy got from Eastwood. My oven is a Despatch lab oven with a chamber capacity of 3'x2'x2'.
I havent measured yet but I hope to get my mufflers into the oven. I have some high heat powder I want to do them with. I did a set of valvecovers tonight and they came out nice. Im going to buff the ridges and polish, then clear them.
