My passenger side window doesn't want to go up all the way. I took the door panel apart and lubed up the tracks and gears of the assembly and that helped very little. I can move the window glass easily when it's not connected to the assembly. Do the motors for the windows usually fail like this? Also...is there a trick to getting the assembly out of the door for closer inspection?

Thanks

I agree. You are 50%, at least, into the conversion. Why anyone would replace gears is beyond me. You would still have inefficient motors. The Taurus motors are a fraction of the amps, newer, cheap and fast. You should be able to buy two Taurus motors for less than 1 brass gear. You end up with a dependable system. Just follow the directions. It is not a hard job!
Just wanted to add my experience for this.

In my case, I decided to do the Taurus motor conversion because I have the same problem (I suspect). My drivers-side window stopped going up all the way but would go down easily. After I changed the motor out and tested the new Taurus one with a 12v battery, everything worked great. BUT when I reconnect the car power it still doesn't work properly. Seems I've got a bad connection to or at the switch (only DS is affected).

Have you tried connecting good power direct to your factory motors to see if they work? Turns out my original motor was completely fine (although slow as stock ones are) and didn't need replacing. I'm glad I did change it, however because it sure is a LOT faster now. I also did the lowering mod which is a piece of cake and much easier than it looks. It's also a lot easier than changing out the motors is, IMO.

You're right about that Mike, assuming you're referring to the Bosch ones.

After I changed my window motor I tested my switch. Even though I had replaced them only a few years ago, it turned out that the drivers-side one was shot. It must have all of 100 actuations on it.

My car got about 35 years out of the originals and maybe 3 years out of the Bosch ones. I'm pretty disappointed. With all the crap people give Pantera electrics it turns out the fancy German stuff is real garbage by comparison. I guess they are meant to work only with relays for the load.

So, if any of you have Bosch switches and your windows are slow (or won't go all the way up), don't assume it's not the switch. Check that first.

Here's an update. I got the whole thing out yesterday and found 30 year old grease binding everything up. I got it all cleaned up and put on fresh white grease to the whole assembly. I re-installed it and did not connect the window to the arm. It worked fine in the middle range, but not from fully closed or fully open. So it looks like not I will do the whole motor conversion. I better hurry up and get it done. It is by the way the passenger side door and my wife wants to go riding sometime this summer.

Wish me luck!

Well,
I jumpered directly from the battery to the motor with the same results. It wants to start moving but gets hung up in either direction. Starting to prepare for the motor upgrade.

Wish me luck again!

Thanks for all your help!

George

Got to get ready for the NE Exotic show on the 21st. Hope some of you others can make it. See Larry W's post earlier last month.
