I have a 71' with stock brakes. The only thing non-stock is the master cylinder. Anyways, I noticed that both of the rear rotors have surface rust on both sides. This leads me to believe that they aren't working properly. I jacked the rear off the ground, started the engine, and when the brake pedal is pressed I couldn't turn the rear wheels. They turn freely when the pedal isn't pressed. The pads are almost worn down but they should still be working enough to clean the rust off. Anyone have any suggestions of what's going on here? Also, the car seems to stop fine in my opinion. I'll be replacing the pads soon, which leads me to my next question. How much should I expect to pay for replacements all the way around? I'm not ready to upgrade calipers or other brake parts unless I have to. With summer coming up I need to get this air conditioner working, and I'm starting with stock components. Thanks for any replies..

First, I'd suggest rebuilding the rear calipers. This is quite simple and the seals etc are relatively cheap & available from all the usual Pantera vendors including the host of this Page. These are one-piston sliding calipers, so once removed & rebuilt, put a dab of grease on each of the two sliding areas on each caliper body so they can move in their bracket. And to release the tricky self-adjuster inside, rotate the piston to the 45 degree position and the whole thing slips apart, from either end.
Sounds like a good place to start. I'll probably do that real soon. When I order the rebuild parts I'll go ahead and get the pads as well.So far it looks like replacement pads are about $250-$300. Do you have any suggestions on which ones to get? And do they come any cheaper than that? Thanks.
I have a set of front (only) Porterfield street/track composition pads with very little mileage (+/- 3,000) for stock calipers. I upgraded my fronts to the Corvette-sourced PBR's & can't use these pads. The Porterfield pads are pretty highly touted on the bulletin boards as an upgrade for stock brakes. And doing the fronts would give the most noticeable improvement. Let me know if you don't get Chuck's. I would sell for $100 plus shipping from NC.
