Hey Doug -

Resurrecting an old thread...

I am surprised you say you never had a metal bulkhead cover.

This:

Metal Bulkhead Cover

It goes under the big panel behind the drivers seat. Attached with 8-12 screws.

The picture is sideways.. The angled part is where the throttle cable goes through the firewall.

REALLY?

Rocky

PS> What did you think those captive nuts around the square engine hole were for?

PSS> This looks like a very nice specimen.
There were actually two different sizes. After sometime in '71 or '72 (not sure from which chassis #) Detomaso raised the bulkhead 30 mm, meaning that the bulkhead covers had to be enlarged by a similar margin.

Looking at Mikes Picture on ebay, the version he has there (he may of course have both), is the later higher version. If you look closely at the Picture you can see that in the middle of the cover an about 30 mm strip of metal has been welded in. That was a Detomaso modification to make early bulkhead covers fit later higher bulkheads.

Make sure you check this before purchasing

I think that bit of knowledge needs to be documented here
