The tank is out of the car.  Upon inspection I found a rust patch at the bottom of the tank.  The photo below was taken through the opening for the filler neck (the neck is removed).  I have a hand held sand blaster and I am thinking of extending its outlet with a tube and shooting the rust with walnut shell.  Another option might be Evapo-Rust but it will likely leave some crud in that area.  I am looking for insight and/or ideas for getting this fixed.  Thank you.

I used Evapo Rust in the tank.  I also attached a small wire brush to a stick and scrubbed the bad area.  Most of the rust is gone.  Vinegar would likely achieve the same result. The metal is pitted in that area as would be expected.  It looks like I will moved forward with the tank as it is since it does not leak.  I will be running two fuel filters, a coarse one before the electric pump and a fine one after the pump.
