No, the 1971 and early 1972 seats allow the seat back and seat bottom to be separated from each other.

I took this from the SACC website. their ad is at the top of the forum pages   They offer reproduction replacement foam and upholstery for both styles of seats.

Yes. But stock upholstery pleats are oriented 90 degrees apart on '71 vs '72. So you must do both seats or risk criticism. '73-up seats are one piece welded frames and totally different, as are 80-up wide body cars. So 4 different seats involved.

Thanks for the information. I would replace both. Is it possible these 71 looking seats seats could be original to a 72? They definitely are original seats and have not been reupholstered. (At least looks that way to me).

Sure could- at the very best of times, Pantera production was chaotic with virtually no sharp cut-off in the use of parts that had been changed or upgraded. Example: my Sept build '72-1/2 Pantera 'L' has a late outside gas filler and the late over-center shifting mechanism.but an early dashboard and early seats. Remember: A. DeTomaso never threw anything away that he could sell!
