Does anyone know a source for some front wheel REAR splash guards. Obviously not a stock item. I have seem a couple of posts where people have made them but interested in buying some pre-made. Thanks, David Finley 3659
I suspect most owners are now scratching their heads?
Front wheel, REAR splash guard????
I have only seen these on my car. I have always believed they were added by Dennis Quella during a full restoration for a previous owner.
They are super simple to fab at home. Take some poster board and trim to fit, then transfer to the metal of choice. A couple of pop rivets to attach, silicone sealant to close any gaps, and a final coat of rattle-can undercoating.
Be sure to leave a bottom opening to allow drainage if any water somehow gets in.
Look closely and you'll see the two pop rivets on the left side of the guard.
Have a look at Mark Charlton's thread on the guards he made up. I used the same material on my car front and rear and also for other products. Easy to shape with a hot air gun. http://pantera.infopop.cc/eve/...251005536#1251005536
I thought it was Mark, wasn't sure. I'm sure I can make up a shield but mounting it is a whole other issue. It appears that on some cars there's a brace between the panel and the frame but not on mine.
A rear-side front wheel splash-guard might be a clearance problem if you're running big tires and extra camber. To fit 245-50 x 15 tires on 8" Campys (with -4.25 degrees of camber), I had to flatten one section of the left-side cowl drain for full-lock turn clearance. On the passenger side, you'd need to somehow avoid the wiper motor. It's guard also needed a flattening at one bend. This is so common an interference these days of big tires/wheels that one vendor stocks pre-trimmed wiper shields with stock ones as cores. I'd personally do a taped-together cardboard mock-up and run some full lock turns at low speed around the block before cutting metal.
