started new engine today, ran great, then it died!

Well, today was the day. I fired up the brand new engine, actually most everything else was new too! It ran great for about 15 minutes, and then it died. I think it's the coil. When it was running I had power to both sides of the coil, now I only have it on the + side of the coil. I even added power to the tach side and no sparkie! It was a NAPA $15.00 cheapie. Shouldent a coil fire with just hot on the + side?
