My car was purchased last year with the Quella tapered bearing mod. The car sat for 4 years and it was evident from the noises that the bearings were gone.
Water had gotten in and screwed the bearings ( more so on the pass side).
I replaced th bearings and seals and it is clear that it is a poor design. I caught one rain storm in Sept and the bearings are screwed again. I can see brown oozing out of the seal. The wheel was seized after sitting for few weeks.
Where do I go from here? Back to stock bearings and seals? Does anyone have any stock uprights for sale?

My mistake. Quella did not do the conversion.I found the old receipts.A stupid amount of money was spent on these. My uprights w/ bearing conversion was purchased from PI with labour "sublet out Pantera Performance".
Has anyone else bought these from PI or had the conversion done through them? Same problem?

Will,

I converted my rear bearings to double roller bearings and nothing had to be altered in the upright except the center sleeve is cut shorter.

I'm sure this will cause some debate ..but why would they convert to a tapered rear bearings .. the difficulty factor alone is a pain in the ass ... never mind seals whre water can get in ..the double rollers are sealed units pre lubicated ?

This means the DID ship them over to Quella- Pantera Performance Center- and had him do the machining.

Then they tacked on their middleman charge.... Wink

And it is not cheap, as most of the time when the owner noticed a problem with the rear axles, the damage had been done. Dennis will not do just the bearing conversion on axles that have already been damaged. Two axles cost about $450 EACH back before Wilkinsons' new repros come on the market.
