Can someone please explain to me how the return/release mechanism supposed to work? I have two switches. Neither release when I push the button.
Is there something I am missing?

There is a little tab on the inside of the switch bore where it mounts to the steering column that coincides with a notch in the column sheath. That tab gets flipped when the steering column rotates to return the switch to the off position.

LOL! No, no, no. When you disassemble the column and remove the switch, there is a tab on the inside of the switch that works like a button.
On both of my switches ( I have a spare) if you press that "button" it does not release the switch to the neutral position.
Never mind about the switch. Just figure it out BUT what does the spring on the steering shaft do?
Does it load the turn signal cancelling cam?
