Having changed my old door motors for New type Fiat ones, the window movement is now quicker and uniform, so happy with the job.

BUT the gearbox was still noisy, I have fitted new brass gears by the way, so I cleaned all the old grease out and put some grey Molybdenum stuff in there thinking it would help.
Also I cut a few pieces of door soundproofing and stuck it on the gearbox, see pic.

This made absolutely NO difference at all, I will have to live with this French squeaker forever it seems.

The other item that gets up my nose is the steering wheel its a nice Momo wheel with an orrid tacky plastic rim around it. so its off to a trimmer down South for recovering in Alcantara to match the Dash board.

noisy and vibrating are normally a misalignment problem. the use of flexable coupling and mounts allow the quick assembly without spending time to align and have "good enough" operation.

with out seeing and hearing while running I can only assume alignment would be causing your noise.

just a unqualified observation, the rubber mounts used on the plate seem like they would be a problem. first, just having freedom on the one side means the recoiling movement would be hammering the fixed nut.

another concern with the rubber mounts is that they would allow the alignment to be in constant change. I could also see thier snugging up could cause angular misalignment

I understand your thoughts but the motor and gearbox shaft are in alignment.

I am certain the gearbox is the cause of the noise.

Also the noise was worse when using the old motors, which also were in alignment.
So I have eliminated the noise from the well worn bearings in the old motor.

I wish I could get hold of new plastic gears and see if that decreases the noise problem further.

I wouldn't have a clue how to do that Peter,
if it might be mesh noise, a radical approach would be remove grease, apply lapping compound, run it back and forth a few times, then throughly clean and grease.

were your new brass gears aquired through an auto parts distributer or a generic gear supplier. Maybe a common gear, say for the worm could be sourced in plastic.
