what were the stock valve covers on L-models

To my knowledge, ALL Panteras came with standard stamped steel valve covers, painted Ford Blue. In addition, they each had, glued on, the cast aluminum De Tomaso plate that in short time came unglued and fell off.

This is the plate that many think was factory installed on the rear of the back, bottom chassis crossmember. In reality, that location was just an often used place to stick a plate once they had come loose, or the owner had upgraded to cast aluminum valve covers.

Affirmative. All Ford Era Panteras had the blue valve covers. Late-model cars had various different covers, but you car should have come with blue covers.

My 74 came to me with Boss 302 rocker covers. The cast "DeTomaso" plates were riveted to the sides. The tops still had the small holes for the plug wire looms to attach to.

I know they weren't OE but I guess that's another dress up thing folks did prior to the creation of the covers with the "DeTomaso" cast into where the plug wire loom used to sit.
