I did buy a 12mm bolt and also a finer 12mm bolt today but neither would enter beyond a turn and a half, I will get one of your recommended sizes tomorrow, thanks very much.

Is this front or rear or both? If you got new wheel nuts are you sure they are 12mm x1.5? It may pay just to get a thread gauge to check or die to run over the studs.

There's a slim possibility your front studs could be imperial, some folks were using front Mustang rotors as replacements and the 12mm studs are not a tight fit, as the rotors were designed for a 1/2-20 stud. It could be that the previous owner fitted the imperial studs to match.

Joules, my studs are standard ones I'm sure.

I have changed the original nuts, which fitted very easily for a new set with the de Tomaso logo stamped on the front.

Most of the nuts go on easily but some are tight and I wanted to clean out the threads in the studs.

Hi Pete, standard 12mm bolt will be 1.75 pitch, I think you will need a fine pitch 12mm tap which is 1.5 pitch as previous stated and FYI super fine 12mm would be 1.25 pitch.

Peter, what may have happened with the tight examples of your new nuts- the people who make these things may have over-plated the threaded holes inside, thus tightening up the threads. This has happened to people who pretty-up the rear swaybar by plating it; then the sphere-ball ends for the swaybar doesn't fit! Try running a tap through the new nuts and see what happens (assuming they are the correct threads to start with, of course!)

Run a tap through the nuts to make sure the threads are clean.
