Magnesium wheels don't take polishing well, partly because the castings are very porous (a characteristic of magnesium) and partly because the metal is extremely reactive. Water touching the metal will instantly corrode it, as will atmospheric moisture. So you must coat the polished mag with something to protect it. No transparent material exists that will remain transparent and also remain impervious to water for more than a few months. Hundreds of owners since 1971 have tried this. All were unsuccessful. Chrome-plating is not possible, either. So we paint them with an etching primer followed by the best paint ymoney can buy (and retouch it periodically), or buy some aluminum copies and polish those.
