Windshield antenna

Has anyone had any success using the antenna in the windshield? Mine can't seem to bring in any AM or FM stations, just a bunch of static. Is there a trick or do they not work? Hate to drill a hole if I don't have to.

Be real sure the wires are actually hooked up to your stereo. Theres a horror story in the Forum archives about an installer that TRIMMED THE WIRES off before glueing in the new extra-cost windshield to one Pantera. The symptoms sound like one or both the lead-in wires are cracked. The windshield antenna isn't the best but it does work....
