Windshield Installation

Does anyone know the proper way to fit a windsheild into a 1972 with the four piece molding? Does the molding go in before or after the windsheild is installed? The shop manual says to install it after and this forum has a posting the show the molding going in before the windsheild is installed. I am having a lot of difficulty getting the rubber gasket to fit inside the opening. Any suggestions? Thanks.....

Yikes! I thought it was a molded one piece molding that you mounted to the glas and pulled in with a rope?

Hope this helps, I don't know what the service manuel says, but I will tell you, mine went in as one unit.

Great Post Mark. The problem that I am having is that once my gasket seats into the flange in the windshield opening, it pushes the windshield glass out of the gasket. It seems like my gasket is oversized to the opening and windshield. I know that everything should fit since it is my original windshield and didn't do anything to the flange when I re-painted. Is it possible that I have a gasket that is oversized????

Silver, There are several "styles" of windshield gaskets available. One is closer to stock than others. This may be the issue.

I purchased a "factory" gasket, and it fit like a glove. While doing the prep work, fit the seal on the glass, and see if it has slack around the glass. Also, it REALLY helps to have a extra set of hands, to hold things in place, and apply gentle pressure while installing the assembly.
