POCA has an opportunity to host the 2012 Fun Rally in Phoenix at the Wild Horse Pass Resort and Casino (WHP), http://www.wingilariver.com/

We would like your feedback as to whether you would prefer that the 2012 Fun Rally Event remain in Reno at Circus Circus, http://www.circuscircusreno.com/ , or move to WHP in Phoenix.

A preliminary Agenda that outlines the timing of the proposed activities at WHP in Phoenix is available through this link at the POCA website.

I don't always put a lot of faith in average temperatures. Phoenix is warm to hot around the end of April. What do I know, I only live in Arizona.

The point is that many people in years past complained about it being too hot in Las Vegas during the rally in late April. I believe Phoenix is a little hotter than Las Vegas. I have to admit that Reno weather may be unpredictable in early June, but one thing it is not is hot.
I thought it was funny when someone said it is already quite hot in April, and someone posted that the average high temp is 85 (average temp 73). That is like fall weather to us that live in Vegas. When it gets down in the 70s, and there is a slight breeze, I start looking for a long sleeved shirt.

Not poking fun at the posters above, but realizing how skewed my perception of weather has become living in Vegas for so long.

Obviously I always have my fingers crossed for Vegas.

Las Vegas? That makes two of us!
Why could we not have the Fun Rally at the Plaza in Vegas???? They have renovated it and it looks VERY nice! The rates seem extremely low and the Fremont display would be AWESOME!!
My wife and I attended every Fun Rally, from the time I bought my Pantera until it was moved to Reno, and had an amazing time!! We have absolutely no interest in going to Reno or Phoenix. Quite a few people in our local chapter feel exactly the same way.

BRING IT BACK TO VEGAS!!!!!

Yeah, but didn't you NOT attend even when it was in Vegas? Half of the event is driving to it, that's what I don't like about having it in Reno, I don't get to drive but 5 miles to the event! That said IMO the touring drives here are infinitely better than anything Vegas can offer.

I don't mind Vegas it's just that after 27 years people thought it was getting a bit repetitive.... runs to Mt. Charleston, Red Rock and Valley of Fire.

Yeah, I wanted to go two years in a row. Both times I tried to hook up with people for drives or other get togethers with no success. The last year it was here, I was so slammed that all I could manage was cruising through the garage in the middle of the night to check out what cars came. The problem for me is that I can't turn it into a vacation like others do. I also tried to find out what my options were to attend some events without doing the whole "package" since I live here. Had no success there either.

So, I was mostly kidding when I mentioned Vegas. I forgot it was here for so long...I am a relatively new owner. I got my car and then the event moved. Heh.

Now that others are pushing for Vegas, I feel kinda like an *ss. Mostly because I am not a POCA member, and it is their event, right? Smiler

You think an average temp of 73 in April is hot ?

A little bit warm in late April is an understatement. Phoenix is usually warmer than Las Vegas.

I commend the people from the Arizona group that are willing to put on this event. But I don't believe that we should expect nice 73 degree weather since an average is just that. The high and low temperatures combined. Deserts are known for exteme temperature differences between the morning low and daytime high. The information below is what I copied off of the net about Phoenix weather:

April Weather

Elsewhere in the nation, April is greeted generally as the first month of spring:

"April and May are the keys of the year".
"April showers bring May flowers", etc.

But in Phoenix, spring has been under way for some time before April makes its appearance. The average high temperature rises from 80 at the beginning of the month to 89 by the end. One-hundred degree temperatures are unusual. In 1989 a 105 degree temperature was recorded on the 20th and on the 29th in 1992. The average number of days with temperatures of 100 or higher is less than one. Many years have none at all, but there were nine days with 100 or higher in 1989. Nighttime temperatures rise from an average of 52 on the 1st to 59 on the 30th.

The mean temperature for the month is 69.9, and it has been as warm as 80.1 in 1989 and as cold as 62.4 in 1967.

April's rainfall continues the downward trend toward the May minimum, and the normal is only 0.22 inches. In 1926, 3.36 inches fell, and the last April without any rain was in 1993. Over the years, however, the month averages two days with measurable rain. The most measurable rain days occurred in 1926 with 13.

Winds become a bit more gusty in April with the increase in heating, and gusts on the order of 20 to 24 m.p.h. or higher can be expected on eight days and even gusts of 40 to 44 m.p.h. on one day.

April's sunshine averages 89 percent of possible, reaching a high value of 98 percent in 1954, 1961, 1989, and 1991, and a low of 68 percent in 1926.

Six cloudy days can be expected, but there were as many as twelve in 1959. The last April with no cloudy days occurred in 1920.

I really think that if you live in Phoenix, April may be a pretty nice month if you compare it to June or July.
