Air filters

I'm writing from work.

The cross reference will be the same air filter element as a 1973 Mustang or Torino with the 351C 4V motor (Q code motor).

I have a Fram book at home, I can give you a part number later this evening.

Stock air cleaner assembly?

Most have been changed by now, but if stock it should have a blue base, chrome top, and emissions flapper valve with heat tubing coming off the header. This is a more or less correct description, as my car had lost the stocker well before I bought it.

If you have an aftermarket 14" x 3" filter element, suggest you go to Kragens, Pep Boys etc and check out their performance section.

George, thanks for the quick response. The 73 Mustang, Torino 351C info should do it. Is it important to tell the parts guys the 4V Q code motor info? Chuck

Larry, the cleaner assembly base is blue and top cover is blue. There is still a worn out paper decal on it. Nothing is plumbed into the headers that i can see. Chuck

Chuck, the air filter element lists as Fram #CA340A, Motorcraft #FA-74.

I believe the air filter assembly of the '73 -'74 cars is vertically less high than the assembly of the earlier cars, to make up for the extra height of the egr plate beneath the carburetor.

'72 and earlier cars list Fram #CA324A, Motorcraft #FA-50 for an air filter element.

The lid of your air filter is probably blue because the chrome had rusted, and a previous owner (or Mayberry) painted it blue to improve the looks. The chrome lid on my air filter is pretty rusty.

Larry, George you are right again amigos.7260 should have a chrome top. I called Mike Mayberry to purchase one and he has offered to exchange mine for a chrome one he has. That was very kind of him. Thanks to all. George if you get a chance visit Otis Chandler's car museum in Oxnard. It's open free to the public tomorrow and Saturday 10am to 3pm. Everything will be auctioned Oct. 21. Larry, your discription is exact. My air cleaner assembly is plumbed into the headers. Chuck
