The switches on my 1972 pre L are all black and have no labels.  I ordered new switches and they’re rather different sizes vs the ones I’m taking out.  The new window switches are close in width but much shorter than the originals and the other new switches are much larger.

The gauge and switch panel looks too good to have been modified but then again, I’m working on a 1972 pantera….

I’m considering just getting another gauge panel

My headlight switch wasn’t working which has sent me down this path.

I’ve attached a picture of what I was starting with.

Upon closer inspection you have the early version that uses actual chromed brass channel as trim for the gauge panel.

The OEM panel used with that trim was a metal plate covered in black vinyl. Yours appears to be painted. I suspect somebody formed a replacement panel with cut outs designed for the replacement switches.

I figured all the switches were not original as they had no markings but was surprised at how well the panel was made. It fits the trine perfectly and the detail on the switch holes is amazing.  So much trouble vs just getting the proper switches.

if the switch holes were hacked or rough, I would suspect it was a custom piece but this one had me fooled as it was so well done.

I’ve attached a picture that includes some of the switch holes.  I covered it with the proper vinyl before I realized the switch holes were so far off.

Not a big deal, just another surprise.
