I get around that by parking with a Bricklin a Delorean and sometimes a Fiero ...

If the car viewing public is having trouble telling the difference between the Pantera and the Delorean, there's a trick tell which is which ... Look at the crowd around the car, Panteras attract a very different audience than Deloreans!

I think the tomato reference is an UK pronunciation issue. DeTomaso does sort of sound like TOMATO as they pronounce it in the UK. I have never had that problem here in the USA. LOL

Someone asked me what it was. I pointed to the script that said Detomaso Pantera, and he said, "no, that's not it."

Another time a young guy came up to me and asked me if it was alright to show it to his girlfriend. I said sure.

He came back with her and showed her the car. He asked her if she liked it. She got all pissy and "said sure, but what's the big deal? It's a Camaro".

We just looked at each other and said nothing and we both had a "what's the use" expression on our faces? I sure hope she was worth it?

My neighbor thinks it's a Lamborghini because that's all he can remember.

Fiero, Kit car. I overheard a guy at a gas station telling his son it was a kit car, I told him it was a production car, well he was one of the gifted ones who then said "no it is not".
I like walking up to Fieros with my wife or my Pantera buddies and say "oh look guys a Pantera!"

yesterday i got, lotus, kit car nd replica in the same sentence.

My red GP4 mostly gets mistaken for a Lambo because of the wing. Sometimes, I hear Ferrari or kit car.

My Pantera in bare metal/under process has been called "Lancia"

Someone once asked me if my Pantera was a kit and I said: "Oh no, this is a real one."

I doubt they knew what it was...but their attitude/disposition changed for the positive...as if they were seeing something truely rare (and at least in North Carolina, they were).

I also get the "Kit Car?" or "Lambo?" question.

One funny thing I have found is that when I drive down the motor way a lot of people sit right up my arse trying to read the script.

While parking at my local bank, a guy comes running out with his camera(who runs out of a bank?). The guy starts taking pictures while shouting "a new GT40...a new GT40". At least I'm in good company...

So, when they ask (or tell) you if it's a Kit Car, tell them, "Yeah, it's a replica of a Pantera. It's pretty spot on, don't you think?"

When sitting at the traffic lights I often have guys lean out of their car window & say "what is it?"
I reply with "Detomaso Pantera".
Nine times out of ten they give me a blank look or a simple "Huh?"
I generally reply with "its Italian".

I then get a smile & a nod of the head, sort of like "OK, that explains it then".

At petrol stations I often have guys come up & start chatting, often they are wanting to impress me with their knowledge of the car.
Statements like, "so it still has the orginal 351 fitted?"

Here in Perth a Pantera is a fairly rare car with at best only around 6 examples in the state of Western Australia.
(you could fit Texas into Western Australia several times & still have space for Europe!)

So it takes a die hard car nut to know what the car really is.
