Just had my distributor recurve to 22 deg on a distributor machine. With the static timing set at 12 deg and vacuum advance hooked up to side of the Holley carb, my timing is reading 48 deg total @ 3000 rpm on the car and with the vacuum disconnected its reading 39 deg @ 3000 rpm. Wondering if its ok to leave the vacuum advance hooked up or leave it disconnected ? Are there any advantage or disadvantage with it hooked up ? Thanks

Experience has shown that-
1)- many if not all street 351-Cs make more power on today's crummy gas with less advance, like 32-36 total
2)- running more than 38 degrees for other than drag-racing often causes heating and detonation problems
I would schedule an hour of dyno time with a knowlegable engine guy, run only premium fuel and be careful of the water temp. Or, cut the advance back a few degrees
