My driver door handle will open the car but I cannot lock the door with a key. This has happened in the last month or so. Haven't tried anything yet.
Im also including an outside picture. It was built in 10/72. Does it look like they used a push button door for a regular door handle? What's the fill spot around the handle?

That's a shame, never seen anything like it, but definitely not a pushbutton indention, those holes are perfectly round (the bezels are oval, but not like that).
Doors do stress when opened and closed hard with the door handle, the earlier pushbutton design used the button to open the door and grab the rear edge to open, one should continue that procedure despite the square handles.
The door lock mechanism is a little finicky and if not adjusted just right has trouble overcoming the arc resistance. The threaded pushrod has a plastic ball end that can be adjusted from inside the door.
Does your key turn a little ?
also possible that the black knob on the inside dont runn free treu the door panel . Turn the knob out and look if this will help.
