I have it on good authority that the first Mangustas were built on the Sport 5000 backbone chassis and had a special set of downdraft aluminum heads using 4 x 48IDA Weber carbs. Does anyone have knowledge of these heads?
I am trying to build up a history as to how many were produced and by whom, as De Tomaso outsourced most of his operations. We have a pair which I found new and are now installed on a 289 engine installed in a 1964 Cobra. Great performers!

Barry,

DeT only used a Weber setup on their aluminum prototype motor. (I don't believe that they ever ran one of these in a Goose.) Otherwise, they may have put a few SBF Weber setups on for customers using the stock cast iron heads, or hipo 289 heads.

I have never seen or heard of any early cars with Webers allegedly "from the factory". The Weber intake does appear in the homologation document, but that is it.....AFAIK.

DeT being a tight screw, opted for off the shelf engines.....
