Im going to be washing my car, the first it has seen water in 20 years. It does have some dust and sediment sitting on the top, does anyone have any recomendations for washing it that would be easy on the paint? Also, I am looking to get the paint to shimmer like it once did. I was going to rinse it with gentle hose water first, followed by Mcquires wash and then wax.

Does anyone have any favorite products?
Thanks!

I may catch some flack for this, but I've NEVER (36yrs) hose washed my Pantera! (I don't want all those nooks/crannies/crevices full of water)
I use a duster/moistened microfiber towels/wax on/wax off.
Mother's line of products are great, and as Husker suggested, try their clay bar for an excellent paint surface re-finish......

You might think about using a clay bar after washing. I would also use a wax remover to get rid of any old remaining wax.

Yeah, what Husker said.

FWIW, I don't hose my car off either. Rather I have a bucket of filtered water to dip/rinse a soft rag in that I use to wipe each surface. Then, I might mist it and wipe down with Maguires Quick Detailer.

Anyway, definitely use a clay bar after cleaning it. If you have any doubts about the effectiveness, perform this simple test.
1. Place your finger in a plastic sandwich bag (one of the really cheap light weight ones).
2. Run that finger lightly along the paint where the clay bar has been used, and notice how smooth the paint is.
3. Then, run that same finger (still in the sandwich bag) lightly over a section of the car where you've washed it but have not used the clay bar. You will be surprised at how rough it will feel.

Once you finish with the clay bar, give it a good wax job.
