You asked, so here's my 2¢

The Fremont display was way larger, more interactive with the public, and more interactive amongst the owners than the frypan display on the top of the Orleans parking structure. One of the major complaints I've heard about the Orleans is the crappy display situation.

The powers that be think that the owners will -

one - not want to drive all the way to Fremont

two - not want to have to clean the car after
that long drive

three - not want to be without a hospitality
suite or their hotel room nearby

I think those reasons are full of crap.

Panteras are driven out to Pahrump, out to Red Rock Canyon, up to Mt. Charleston, over to auto museums and on poker runs. Our POCA Prez has adopted the phrase 'Drive It!!' which I started to use in honor of the guy that said it, the late, great Tony Harvey.

And just how dirty can a car get driving a lousy ten miles or so on a city street. The last year at the Plaza, I spent a good two hours cleaning 2511 to remove the track event dirt and grime I had gathered at LVMS.

And if I need to hang out somewhere other than beside my car, which is way cool and I have two folding chairs that fit in the rear tub just fine, I just 'think' I might be able to find a spot somewhere Eeker on Fremont.

This year there was a lot of talk about this, most in favor of a return to Fremont based on what I heard, and I hope CHIPIE will take the leap and make it happen for 2008.

Your BIG support before and then during such a happening will help make it a reality, regardless of where the event hotel is located.

I agree with Larry. I saw my first Pantera when I was a kid and lusted for one. Well, the reality of life's financial responsibilities prevented me from having one during that time. I was reacquainted with the Pantera while walking through the display one year while in Vegas. The rest is history . . . the more accessible to the public the display is the better! If it wasn't for that display, I would be driving a 'Vette or a Ferrari as I was initially planning.
Having been to and participated in both displays, There is no question that the Fremont display is way better. The Orleans hotel is not a good location for the display, despite the fact that the hotel puts out signs advertising the display there is not a lot of public participation at the Orleans.

Yes, there is talk about moving it back to Fremont Street and we "CHPie" will probably try and make that happen next year if more than a hand full of people want to participate. However participation is key to the success just like Larry said. That first year at the Orleans in 2005 "Chpie" mailed out a survey regarding driving over to Fremont Street to prior participants in the display. Out of the 80 surveys mailed out 5 responded and 2 said yes they would drive over to Fremont Street for the display. That is why we have not been back to Fremont Street.

Ah, democracy in action. Wink

Mark, I've been to both.

I'll be at the next one, too. Prefer it to be on Fremont.

And for those not familiar with Fremont, it is covered with the Fremont Street light experience which covers the whole shebang with shade.

Parking cars on an empty, dusty lot anywhere close to the strip would have been better than the top of the garage at the Orleans. Part of the fun is talking to non-owners about the cars and that just ain't gonna happen on the 4th floor of the garage at the Orleans.

Las Vegas is so successful now that every hotel is booked solid so they really have no need to build traffic by hosting a car show.
2 more cents worth...

I agree with Larry!
Almost any place might be better then the roof top at near a 100 degrees? Oh, and the food! My self and a few friends had Burgers and Hot Dogs to help support the group. Mediocre at best! Grill to order would have been nice, not left in steamers.
"Chpie" you have our support!...along with our 2 cents worth
My first big Pantera adventure was Freemont St in Vegas. It sure was a great scene. I'm sure each venue has it's benefits, but if you're trying to spread the joy to the public, the top floor of a hotel garage isn't it. If you want a private place for friends to gather—it's tops (rather literally).
