On the cars with flares, riveted or not, are the fenders opened up behind the flares?

On most cars I see that get flare jobs, it's a big ordeal, cutting the fender and fenderwell, rewelding it all back, then applying the flares.

The Pantera looks to be one of the only cars that could run with flares and not need the fenders modified behind them (unless one wanted to run REALLY low).

I've looked at a lot of builds, but can't recall seeing the "reshaping" of the fenderwells on the cars that got flares.

Are they normally just added on and then run with the car unmodified behind the flares?

I think the GTS flares are just riveted onto the existing fenders without removing the stock lip beneath. I'm sure anyone with a GTS can confirm or correct me.

I'm pretty sure all the other big flares - GR4, GT5, GT5-S, etc. cut the fenders and remove the stock lips from beneath the new flares.

Check out Chris Ashton's build thread here. Unfortunately, it doesn't show if he cut the fenders, but I expect he did.
