I’m new to this forum so I thought I would introduce myself.
I don’t own a Pantera yet. I'm just getting to the point where my old project is wrapping up, so I'm starting to do research on my future project. My current toy is a 1990 Porsche 928S4. This car is responsible for calling my attention to something a bit simpler. The 928 is complicated, to say the least. A great car to drive but mechanically complicated. There are lots of electronics, and enough wire to choke a goat. The idea of a carburetor and points ignition is sounding allot more appealing.
I considered building a 427 Cobra but all those bits and pieces that need to be hunted down and many hours of work before you get to spend any time behind the wheel doesn’t sound like my cup of tea. I’m not too crazy about a soft top either. I want something more practice. In any case I’ve always admired the Pantera and my wife has given her stamp of approval so here we go.
I look forward to joining your ranks and meeting you all.

Welcome. Smiler

I've always admired the 928; beautiful cars. I know it goes totally against the Porsche Purist, but I've often kicked around getting a 928 with a blown engine and doing one of those GM engine conversions. Seems like it would do away with a lot of the maintenance/cost woes.

I guess I'm just a sucker for a European car with an American V8. burn rubber

Likewise.

Have you considered coming to Monterey this August for Concorso Italiano?

Next to the POCA fun Rally, which just finished up last month in Reno, the Concorso is the best place to see a lot of our cars in one place, get ideas and talk with owners.

Rooms are tough to get this late, but can still be done.

Have you hooked up with the Houston area Pantera owners?

Early 928s are a nightmare of worn sensors for literally everything on the car, so you need to be an electronics genius to keep them running. A friend got one with a blown engine and with some heavy shop work, added 350 Chevy pistons, turning it into a 5+ liter with 400 bhp. Probably wasn't worth the effort though. Another put a 928 engine in his 911 as a mid-engine; I KNOW that wasn't worth the trouble he went through!
I would love to go to Monterey there is a good chance i will be in Aberdeen for a good part of that month. Maybe next year!
I made the mistake of attempting to combine several small projects in to one. Ended up pulling the engine. Long story short It's been a year and I'm still getting it put back together, matter of fact it's waiting in the garage for me right now.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I better get to work on that porsche so I can clear a bay for a pantera.
Welcome to the 4UM.

In this depressed market, it is a buyer's market if you are looking for a Pantera.

When you are ready to buy, Barrett Jackson is apparently a good source for buying a an excellent Pantera for with the upgrades you would want already, judging from the results of their auction in Souther California.

Best Regards
