Last year the ignition coil on my car blew, the top came right off! My car has MSD elec system with MSD Blaster coil, which is oil filled. It look to me like the heat in the engine bay caused it, the coil was about six months old. I have just checked the surface temp of the coil on the car after a long drive with a laser temp gun and it read 79 deg celcius, thats 175 deg farenheit. Are the coils designed to operate at these kind of temps??

Sorry to here this, I had the same problem a while back and found out there were to many ohms going to the coil, ie no resistance in the line. Your coil operate's at a certain amount of current and if it gets to much it heats up.
Some of the Pantera's have/had a resistor wire or balast resistor rated at approx 1.4 ohms, hard to say what has been done to the car over the years. I obtained mine from summit, has worked flawless since.
