Not the device itself, just that in the US, use of this device is a "obstruction of justice" charge.
The car is confiscated.

I don't know if it is a class A misdemeanor or a higher felony charge.
Class A misdemeanor in NY is $5,000 and a year in jail.

I do not know if the car is returned to you but it could be held for evidence pending trial? Frowner

If you use it, you had better make sure that it works well. Wink

How roads are patrolled in the US varies. Some places it is patrolled by air and they use a measured mile on you.

The difference between the return frequency of the Police unit and yours plus a double ping return instead of a single.

Of course if it is a 20 year old Police unit there is probably no logic circuit in it.
I use a Blinder Laser system with two laser sensors for the front only. They also come with a quad sensor as well as systems for larger vehicles. On Oahu, where I lived, Laser guns are used exclusively by HPD so I didn't even bother with a radar detector.

Check out radarbusters.com. They do actual comparison tests (with videos) between top competing brands. There is also a reference look up on owning and using laser in your state.

Laws on radar and laser jammers differ. Radar jammers are illegal in all states because they are indiscriminate and interfere with RF signals. Laser use differ by state but legal to own in most states like radar detectors.

When you get cuffed, it hurts. Everyone yelps and that entitles the officer to subdue you because you are resisting arrest.

If you cry from the pain, they can kick you in the mouth to shut you up.

It isn't worth the risk. Others may enjoy it?

Wow, what police state are you in? Sounds like a pretty bad experience.
It's an interesting subject and worth investigating. But only if you like to occasionally (and safely) open up the beast and let her run. There are occasionaly perfect opportunities to do it that will endanger no one but yourself.

PanteraDoug is always very humorous, but the fact is some places that we drive have draconian rules. I have lost my license 3 times and regularly get speeding tickets. I was once told to get out of the car and call someone to drive me and the car home or they would tow it away. I now have a collection of good lawyers in most of the states and provinces where I drive and have managed to avoid or reduce points in most cases - but it can be expensive over time. So even an expensive protection system will pay for itself.

Radar has been replaced almost everywhere with Lidar / Laser which make detectors of any kind sort of pointless. Because by the time you are detected, it's too late.

Both detectors and jammers are pretty much illegal in most places I drive. But jammers have a much better chance of avoiding getting stopped and dealing with the subsequent infraction being uncovered.

So that's the challenge. To find a jammer that delays the police picking up your speed for just a second or three but is not so obvious that it raises a red flag - and reveal that you are jamming them.

This short advantage allows you to brake while turning off the device. That way they will get a reading, maybe still faster than the speed limit, but slower than the speed you were originally going, which could have resulted in a serious offence. Allowing you time to turn off the device so that they can get a real speed signal avoids any danger of arrest for using a jammer or detector.

And so, the issue is how to completely hide the jamming devices and have them appear as standard parking sensors or modern lane change warning systems. Since my car is pretty much custom in electronics and will have such features installed, I now need to find a way to hide the truth from prying eyes - even on up-close roadside inspection.

I'm working on some options and think I will find the perfect solution. Like everything else on my new build, it takes a lot of work and research to uncover those suppliers willing to take the extra steps to build you what you want.

David Nunn's recommendation of K40 was right on the money. I'm working with someone there to develop the answer to this problem.
An amusing story from years past on jammers (most of which do not work as tested by C & D magazine years ago) about a long-haul salesman who got stopped regularly in extortionist SE U.S.speed traps. So he paid significant bucks to an electronics whiz, who installed a motorhome microwave oven on his Mercedes' dash. The klystron tube circuit had been dirtied up a bit and the rear shielding removed "for cooling".

When the salesman blazed through a speed trap again, the cop's detector showed varying numbers from 0 to 250 mph, so the cop roared after him and pulled the guy over. As Officer No-No walked up to the car and began to yell about FCC violations, a 'ding' was heard. The salesman reached over and removed a toasted cheese sandwich from the dash microwave unit, took a bite and politely offered the dumbfounded officer half!

True or not? Dunno, but entertaining.
Boss, really strange you should mention that.

Carrol Messenger, an old local mechanical and electrical "genius-type" passed away a few years back. I was talking about him, with a friend who used to do body work. Seems Carrol had brought in his car to have the front bumper replaced. Carrol told him that when they took off the old bumper there would be "a microwave" mounted up there as a radar jammer, and they should just remove it since it had quit working. The guy just checked in the car and told him 'sure'.

A few hours later, the guy actually working on the car came up front and asked him to come and look at what he'd found. My buddy told me that sure as hell, old Carrol had an unshielded magnetron tube mounted behind his bumper.

I believe a magnetron tube is just a lower powered klystron tube. So maybe your story isn't so far-fetched as it seems?
I read somewhere that a matte black paint job may delay LIDAR registering speed until you're about 1000-1300feet away at which point the paint won't help. Being from Quebec, you don't have a big reflecty front license plate to worry about, so, if you get pulled over, the paint job could be pointed at as the reason you weren't detected sooner - as opposed to arousing suspicion that it was the microwave oven you have mounted in the air-intake ...
