Greetings all!
I hope that you are all wrenching or polishing away, in prep for Vegas, which is right around the corner!!!! I know that I am! I'm putting in a new stereo with CD player, for those looooong stretchs of "no radio reception" across the deserts!! Also, just received a new set of front shocks and will be checking their fit and operation. Once I get that squared, I'll send an additional note out with the particulars!
I've had a question from a gentleman who is working on a "puzzle car" (came in many boxes...) and he had a question concerning replacement vent/vanes for the under dash air conditioning system that most of our cars came with. I believe the name on the unit is Ayacsa and it was made in Spain.... or some part of it was!
These air vents are very fragile and are often broken or missing completely. Has anyone out there found a suitable replacement that doesn't require a lot of hacking and cutting to make them function/fit properly??????
If you have found something that works, and can share it, please respond back to me and I will then broadcast it to the gang.
Until then, I am still thinking about some sort of clean solution to get cold air to the LH side of the driver!! That side always bakes in the LHD cars as there is no means of getting cold air to that side of the passenger cabin!
As an aside, if you're experiencing "hot or cold" feet while driving these gorgeous cars, it is probably due to the massive air leaks in thru the foot box where the pedals mount. I reduced SIGNIFICANTLY the amount of air that passes thru here onto my feet, by using pieces of closed cell foam, (packing material that comes in various things, like Sun computers etc...not styrofoam, but more of a plastic foam...) cut to fit into the many recesses of the pedal box. Where levers etc passed thru the foam, I cut slots and thinned the material down to act as flaps.
I also used heating and A/C tape (foil on one side and thick gooey adhesive on the other) in the trunk area, under the carpet, around the covers that form the trunk floor. In particular, the area where the speedometer cable passes into the main cabin. I used the tape and formed it around these openings to futher block more air leaks.
While not stopping the air leaks 100%, it did cut them down by a good 90% or so! (Guestimate!) I can now drive my car without roasting my toes in my tennis shoes!!!! Still can't cool my side of the car down, but at least I'm no longer trying to cool a car with the AC, while warming it up with air from the radiator coming into the footbox area just as fast!
I'll try and remember to take pictures the next time I take my footbox cover off in the trunk area, and write this all up!!!
Ciao!
Steve
