I have a mystery on my hand and was wondering if anyone can help.  Well hidden behind the rear bumper, below the detomaso writing and above the left muffler, there is a lock with a sliding metal cover.  Looks very much factory placed.  Again, well hidden.  In fact, I have owned my car for 8 years and last night was the first time I saw it.  My car is a 1972 European market Pantera GTS that was imported to the U.S. and was not part of the Ford program.  Does anyone else have this locking mechanism and know what it is intended for?  From the inside, looks like it goes to an electrical box (don't know what it is for either) with a bunch of wires coming out of it that goes into a fuse box.  So it appears to be an electrical shutoff lock.  But why is it there and what is it shutting off power to, if that is in fact what it is for.  I will get some photos tonight and post them, but thought someone might know what it is right off the bat.

That's what I am leaning toward, that somehow it disables the electronics of the car so it would not start.  Unfortunately I do not have the key that goes to that lock; or I have it somewhere and didn't know what it was for, so I just stored it and forgot about it.  So I can't turn it to see its effect.  I am thinking since the wires from the electrical box on the back side of this key lock go to a fuse box, maybe it disables all the fuses and the car doesn't start?  It might be a 1970s version of an anti theft device.   Curious indeed.  Boy, is it well hidden though.  Again, 8 years of ownership and I have been under the back of the car a dozen times, and just saw it for the first time the other night.  If it is an anti theft disabling function, then it is ingenious for its time.
